I like this piece of advice from Roger Hilton.

Never correct, never rub out. If there is a mistake it will have to be adjusted by other means. Never force yourself to do something or depict something. It either happens or it doesn't....
Never write about your inner complicated artistic mechanisms.... rely on your instinct. Listen to the inner voice. If you think of doing one thing, do something else.... Its not so much a question of what you put in, but what you leave out.
