I am lucky enough to own a Derek Hyatt painting, we bought it in 2001 from an exhibition at Cartwright Hall. Derek was there at the time and he talked about his paintings with us. You could tell he was enthused by his work being in that space and you could sense that the moor a few miles away had manifested within the building. I went back to his book Stone Fires - Liquid Clouds by Derek Hyatt and Peter Woodcock recently and page 11 reminded me of why I work in the way I do letting the images come through the process of painting;
"do not have a fixed idea of what you are going to do. Let the drawing or painting evolve. Let go, move on, invent, go beyond your preconceived ideas. This can be scary."
